Holotype

A holotype is the single specimen on which the formal description of a newly discovered species is based.

​

The image below is widely regarded as the holotype of the Quasel. Drawn in the early 1980s, it is the oldest authenticated Quasel known to have survived the Great Abandonment, during which countless others are believed to have been lost forever.

Despite its age, the holotype already exhibits many characteristics found in modern Quasels: smooth outlines, interlinking shapes, numerous eyes, and a remarkable resistance to accurate counting.

The holotype remains carefully preserved in its original two-dimensional form. A modern three-dimensional interpretation is also available, allowing visitors to compare the original artwork with a contemporary rendering while keeping the topology unchanged.
